Tennessee Voters Demand Change

A recent Vanderbilt poll indicated that 56% of Tennessee voters felt that the General Assembly spent too much time on peripheral issues and not helping boost the state economy.

A related story in Nooga.com stated: “In particular, it’s clear that voters are fed up with the General Assembly’s obsession with issues that are not vital to the daily lives of Tennesseans,” Paul Smith, chairman of the Hamilton County Democratic Party, said in a prepared statement"

Bill Taylor, Candidate for 3rd Congressional, Addresses the JFK Club

I have know Bill Taylor for over 10 years.  We first met when we were both adjunct faculty with the University of Tennessee College of Medicine at Erlanger.  We were both rarities there - neither of us is a physician.  Yet, Bill had a great knowledge base that he shared with residents and practicing physicians.  He knew more about Medicare and insurance payers than anyone there.  I think he know even more now.
Bill's address to the Hamilton County JFK Club really resonated with me as he spoke of the "Modern Southern Democrat."  I completely agree that we (if I can tie myself to his message a bit) are the hope for actual governance.  Effective government comes from the center, not the edges.

The Chattanooga Times free Press has a story about Bill's take on the Modern Southern Democrat.  Read it HERE

A Great Program - Stop Stroke Saturday

I attended a terrific program at the Chattanooga State Health Science Center yesterday - Stop Stroke Saturday.  It was put on by the Erlanger Southeast Regional Stroke Center.  Among the presenters were SE Stroke Center Director, Tom Devlin, MD, and Steven Quarfordt, MD and interventional radiologist.  It was a great program with updates on some of the latest stroke therapies in use at Erlanger.

The Chattanooga area is fortunate to have the Erlanger Southeast Regional Stroke Center – it is one of only ten or so in the country that have the full capacity to deal with patients who exhibit stroke symptoms - the leading cause of adult disability and the fourth-leading cause of death in the United States.

Several years ago I was involved in the initial development of this concept when I served as President of the Pleiades Foundation for Advanced Neuromedical Education.  The creation of the Center was a true partnership between a number of different organizations who were guided by the vision of Dr. Devlin.

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam welcomed over 1500 attendees to the 34th Annual Chattanooga Area Leadership Prayer Breakfast at the Chattanooga Convention Center.  The featured speaker was John D. Beckett, an engineer, business owner, and author from Elyria, Ohio.  Mr. Becket, an award-winning entrepreneur, provided an inspirational message centering on his success at combining his Christian faith with a successful business.
