I attended a terrific
program at the Chattanooga State Health Science Center yesterday - Stop Stroke
Saturday. It was put on by the Erlanger
Southeast Regional Stroke Center. Among the
presenters were SE Stroke Center Director, Tom Devlin, MD, and Steven Quarfordt,
MD and interventional radiologist. It
was a great program with updates on some of the latest stroke therapies in use
at Erlanger.
The Chattanooga area is
fortunate to have the Erlanger Southeast Regional Stroke Center – it is one of
only ten or so in the country that have the full capacity to deal with patients
who exhibit stroke symptoms - the leading cause of adult disability and the fourth-leading
cause of death in the United States.
Several years ago I was
involved in the initial development of this concept when I served as President
of the Pleiades Foundation for Advanced Neuromedical Education. The creation of the Center was a true
partnership between a number of different organizations who were guided by the
vision of Dr. Devlin.
